The future of vocational education and training

Cedefop’s event in Finland showcased solutions and plans that brought VET (vocational education and training) to life.

 

Joensuu, Finland was the home to Taitaja 2019, an international seminar in which more than 100 participants discussed Cedefop’s work on the changing nature and role of vocational education and training.

Loukas Zahilas, Cedefop Head of Department for VET Systems and Institutions, was the keynote speaker and participated in a panel discussion which revolved around the future developments in VET focusing on facts, data and also solutions that Finland has started putting in place.

Furthermore, Mr. Zahilas discussed the challenges and the opportunities brought by globalisation, artificial intelligence and broader technological developments to education and training systems. He also underlined the importance of meaningful responses to these recent developments.

In the panel discussion, in which Mr. Zahilas outlined the outcomes of the Cedefop project on the changing nature and role of VET in Europe, also participated the President of Skills Finland Seija Rasku and the Vice President of World Skills Jos de Goey.
