Multimodal sustainable transport - which role for the internalisation of external costs?

17-12-2018

Brussels, Belgium

European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc and the Directorate-General for Transport and Mobility (DG MOVE) are inviting transport stakeholders to discuss first insights from a study on sustainable transport infrastructure charging and the internalisation of transport externalities.

The event is organised as a part of the 2018 Year of Multimodality which Commissioner Bulc has called for to promote the functioning of the transport sector as a fully integrated system, making better use of existing capacities in all transport modes, and improving efficiency of the logistics chains.

During the conference key sector experts will share their views on setting the right price for transport and there will be opportunities for you to discuss and understand the external costs across transport modes; the extent to which the "user pays" and "polluter pays" are implemented in the EU for the different modes; how the ‘playing-field’ can be balanced and how to better manage the impact of externalities.
